Angela St. Vrain: Relocating

2019-2020 Resident Artist Angela St. Vrain explores notions of home in an exhibition at Second Shift Studio Space entitled, Relocating.

From one home to the next, we are always in a transition between spaces and places. It is not necessarily the house itself that defines our living experiences, but our quality of life is greatly affected by seemingly secondary forces. Neighbors, roommates, furniture, and privacy are factors that will greatly affect the perceived value of a living experience. These conditions are fluid and will leave residents in a lifetime state of flux, constantly questioning if they want to or are able to leave or stay.

Imagery of thresholds, windows, portable walls, and outdated materials are vehicles for transition. St. Vrain is further inspired by the homes in which she has lived along with the financial, physical and emotional burdens of the moving process.
